Acclaimed Canadian artist Patrick Watson confirms new U.S. and European fall tour dates in support of his new album Love Songs for Robots (out now via Domino Records). The tour will now run through December, concluding with dates in New York City (at Irving Plaza) and Philadelphia (Under Ground Arts). The first of his US Love Songs For Robots dates is tonight, at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.

In celebration of the commencement of the US tour, Patrick Watson is pleased to share a video for “Hearts”, recorded at a secret album release show in Montreal recently. Watch the video below.

In addition, KCRW yesterday featured previous single “Places You Will Go” as “Today’s Top Tune”—a preview to Watson’s upcoming appearance on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” on June 5.

Love Songs for Robots continues to receive widespread critical acclaim:

“Expansive and intricate…”—NPR Music

“Passionate…as nearly hallucinatory as it is pleasing to the ears.”—The FADER

“Otherworldly…Simply put, Love Songs for Robots is gorgeous.”—Boston Globe

“Watson’s voice exists in that airy, impossible realm that seems
more spiritual than physical in form.”—Stereogum

“Watson has outdone himself.”—Paste

The music was recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles and Pierre Marchand Studio in Montreal. Of the record, some of which debuted at private concerts in small loft spaces, Watson explains, “I wanted to make a science fiction R n’ B meets Vangelis erotica with a zest of folk kind of record.” It was only halfway through writing the record when the artist found himself having, by his own submission, “a bad year” did more personal themes begin to creep in. “I started thinking about how emotional reactions were more mechanical than we think and the only thing left between us and artificial intelligence is the act of inspiration. Just food for thought.” Watch the official video for “Places You Will Gohere.

Watson composes, performs and records his albums with his full band of almost a decade, which includes Joe Grass (guitars), Robbie Kuster (drums/percussion) and Mishka Stein (bass). The recipient of Canada’s elite Polaris Music Prize in 2007, Watson and his band have performed to over 100,000 people at the 2009 Montreal Jazz Festival as well as with full orchestras in Amsterdam and Montreal. Raised and still living in Montreal, Watson himself has composed 15 scores for both film and television, including a trailer for “The Walking Dead” and Wim Wenders’ new 3D film “Everything Will Be Fine”, where he performed the songs “Cynical World” (an original for the film) and “Lighthouse.”

Love Songs For Robots is available on iTunes. The vinyl edition comes with an additional 7”, featuring a non-album track, and can be along with the CD on the Domino Mart.
