Some hip cats may tell you that Steve Reid made his recording debut playing on Martha and the Vandellas' Motown classic – 'Dancing in the Street' or that he's played with the likes of James Brown, Miles Davies and Sun Ra but there's something poignantly satisfying to know that he's still out there doing his thing, making creative, life affirming music on display in the energy and innovation on the new album – Daxaar .

Bringing together the playful electronic textures of Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet and the local talents of Senegal's best jazz musicians; the Steve Reid Ensemble has created what Giles Peterson calls "a rhythmic feast for those who like their jazz out there".

The ensemble will premiere this new material with a special live show at the Barbican in London on Tuesday 20th November as part of the London Jazz Festival in association with BBC Radio 3 and Serious.

In the meantime, have a look at this short film showing the endearing charm of the ensemble recording, performing and relaxing amongst the lovely people and landscape of Senegal.

Daxaar is released on 19th November but you can pre-order from our Mart now.
